Prof. Gal-Yam is exploring one of the universe’s most enduring mysteries: how stars explode and create the elements that make up the world around us. His groundbreaking work includes mapping stars in the moments they explode, revealing the powerful processes that shape our universe. This research is part of the Institute’s broader involvement with the Giant Magellan Telescope in Chile. Once completed, it will be the world’s most powerful ground-based telescope, reflecting Weizmann’s role at the forefront of observational astronomy and quest to push the boundaries of discovery.
