We warmly invite you to an intimate evening of science and conversation with Prof. Idit Shachar, the Dr. Morton and Anne Kleiman Professorial Chair in the Department of Systems Immunology at the Weizmann Institute of Science, generously hosted by Julia and Naomi Corcos in Montreal on Monday, July 13, 2026. 

Prof. Shachar studies the immune system and the cells that help protect us from disease. Her research focuses on understanding how these cells function in health and what happens when they malfunction, contributing to conditions such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune diseases. By uncovering the molecular mechanisms that drive these disorders, her work is helping to advance new approaches to treatment and prevention. 

Her discoveries have led to the creation of SLAM BioTherapeutics, a biotechnology company developing new cancer immunotherapies. By targeting a receptor found on tumour cells and within their surrounding environment, this research aims to harness the body’s own immune system to fight cancer more effectively. 

Prof. Shachar will share insights into her research and how curiosity-driven science can lead to advances in human health. An opportunity to connect with fellow supporters and welcome new friends, the event will also highlight what makes the Weizmann Institute distinctive.
