The global food crisis demands bold research

Food insecurity is rising here at home and around the world. In Canada, one in four people lives in a food-insecure household. Droughts, floods, extreme heat, and declining soil health are threatening the world’s food supply. Rising prices put nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables, and proteins out of reach for millions, and nutrient decline means even the food we can grow has fewer vitamins than it once did.  

Emergency food aid is important and meets today’s needs, but only science can ensure future generations don’t face hunger again.   

That’s why Weizmann Canada is raising $5 million to establish the Food Security and Nutrition Research Hub at the Weizmann Institute of Science. This hub supports research that tackles the root causes of hunger and poor nutrition.
