About this event

Combatting climate change will require science-driven, fundamental breakthroughs that revolutionize how we live.

The next ten years are crucial. Our goal is to make them count.

Join us as we explore how to improve the health of our planet — a topic of growing interest among Canadians.

As part of Weizmann Canada’s Mission Imperative sustainability flagship project, Dr. David Zeevi and PhD student Lior Greenspoon, from the Weizmann Institute’s Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, will share how their research tapping into AI and microbes can benefit the planet under the newly launched Institute for Environmental Sustainability.

Please note: Based on CRA guidelines, a charitable receipt cannot be issued for the cost of the meal expense for this event.

Dr. David Zeevi
Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences

With research focused on the health of the planet, Dr. David Zeevi develops computational methods for studying microbial ecology in human-affected environments, which may lead to strategies for activating beneficial microbial populations for “green” applications. For example, using original artificial intelligence software, he plans to create “knowledge graphs” predicting which microbial genes are most likely to contribute to the degradation of plastic and harmful chemicals.

While still a graduate student at Weizmann, he co-created the computational framework that became DayTwo, a precision medicine company that offers personalized nutrition, diagnostic, and therapeutic solutions using AI and machine learning.

Lior Greenspoon
Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences

PhD student Lior Greenspoon is working to answer environmental and ecological questions at a global scale, using computational tools, including machine learning algorithms. A member of Prof. Ron Milo’s research group in the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, she holds a dual BSc in geology and computer science from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, as well as an MSc from the Weizmann Institute of Science.
