ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT, PHILANTHROPY (CENTRAL CANADA)
LOCATION: Toronto
HOURS: Full time

THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are seeking an Associate Vice President, Philanthropy (Central Canada) to join Weizmann Canada’s (About Us) high performing team. You will ideally be based in Toronto with direct reports in the Toronto office. You are a proven and powerful fundraiser with a demonstrated track record of success securing major and transformative gifts and developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies to meet financial and expectancy targets in support of the Weizmann Institute of Science.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree (minimum undergraduate) and/or CFRE
  • Significant experience in a fundraising role with a proven track record of success with major and transformative gifts
  • Demonstrated skill in developing and implementing successful strategies for the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of donors
  • Proven ability to engage, support and provide leadership to volunteers
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of Toronto’s philanthropic community and previous experience working with high-net worth donors
  • Ability to work both independently without close oversight, and as a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside Weizmann Canada
  • Knowledge of and experience with legacy gifts solicitation and administration is expected in this role, as well as an understanding of Canadian gift planning laws, strategies, and tools
  • Committed to a high level of professionalism while adhering to best practices in the not for profit/philanthropic sector
  • Experience in budget development and people management
  • A valid passport is required
  • Advanced level of proficiency in MS Office and working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Proactively identify new leads and prospective donors for Weizmann Canada, mainly in the Toronto area but also elsewhere in Canada
  • Personally solicit gifts at the 6 and 7 figure level, as well as cultivate and steward donors to maintain involvement, interest and support
  • Further develop the strategy, goals, and operational plans to further develop and grow our legacy and gift planning programs
  • Support the growth and success of direct reports and colleagues through effective coaching and management
  • Support the National Executive Director & CEO in the strategy, cultivation and stewardship of leadership donors (7 and 8 figure donations)
  • Undertake stewardship with major gift and leadership donors in the Toronto area, personally delivering impact reports and supporting other stewardship efforts
  • Partner with the Directors of Communications and Donor & Volunteer Relations on the planning, coordination, and delivery of engagement activities
  • Provide strategic oversight and input into donor events and tactical support where required
  • Provide industry knowledge, monitor trends, and implement best practices as appropriate


Leadership & Team Management

  • Serve as a member of Weizmann Canada’s leadership team, along with the National Executive Director & CEO, Associate Vice President (Eastern and Western Canada) and the Vice President
  • Provide leadership to direct reports, including setting goals and expectations, coaching, supporting high level performance, and recognizing success
  • Promote a culture that is donor-centric, where requests are responded to with a high degree of urgency, professionalism and accuracy
  • Provide external industry knowledge, monitor trends in the philanthropic environment and implement best practices as appropriate
  • Schedule flexibility is required as the Associate Vice President, Philanthropy (Central Canada) will be expected to be available for some evening meetings and events, as well as to travel occasionally
