Interdisciplinary
Dr. Amit Finkler first came to the Weizmann Institute of Science as a graduate, earning his MSc and PhD in Prof. Eli Zeldov’s lab at the Faculty of Physics. He then went on to the University of Stuttgart to perform his postdoctoral research, before setting up his own lab in Weizmann’s Faculty of Chemistry.
“I am a physicist through and through,” says Finkler, “but working in the Faculty of Chemistry opens up all sorts of exciting possibilities. While our lab mostly comprises physics-oriented students, we also have chemists and engineers. It’s a fascinating mix, and being able to integrate different techniques and disciplines is essential for the sort of science that I’m interested in. I love tinkering with optics, enjoy getting cryogenic burns, and now I also have the opportunity to sprinkle all kinds of chemically-engineered molecules on our diamonds!”
Finkler lives in Rehovot with his wife, along with three cats and two children, aged 18, 5, 3, 15 and 12, respectively.
